Environmental Commissioner of Ontario wants your stories about energy conservation successes and failures

New website invites feedback on barriers and incentives

(Toronto, April 7, 2010)  Gord Miller, Ontario's Environment Commissioner wants to learn more about the barriers and incentives you've experienced when conserving energy in Ontario.  He's created a new website at www.ontarioenergyconservation.ca for Ontarians to report their pleasure or frustration with energy conservation initiatives.

The  Green Energy and Green Economy Act, passed in spring 2009, mandates the ECO to produce an annual report on progress of activities in Ontario to reduce the use or make more efficient use of electricity, natural gas, propane, oil and transportation fuels.

This includes:

• Describing results of initiatives to reduce or make more efficient use of the prescribed fuels
• Describing progress in meeting government-established targets for the prescribed fuels
• Identifying barriers to implementation of conservation and efficiency of the prescribed fuels, including those found in Ontario, federal and municipal legislation, regulations and policies, as well as local by-laws

"In order to access the experiences and opinions of the broadest range of Ontarians, we now have simple to use forms on our website, and we welcome input from everyone about their stories and experiences, both good and bad related to conserving energy," Miller commented.

Stories can be submitted at www.ontarioenergyconservation.ca
